I am passionate about animals and it is my admiration for their prowess that I took up Equestrian. I have been pursuing the sport from the age of nine. As a competitive rider, I have gone from competing in Inter-School competitions to State level and to the National level competition. My disciplines are show-jumping, dressage, tent-pegging, and endurance.
Initially despite the innumerable falls, on my path to get comfortable in the saddle, despite the difficulty in the basics, my love to learn the sport and my bond with the animal kept me going.
I love the bond that I share with the equine and the daily excitement of new adventures. It’s a sport that I can never get enough of as I’m constantly learning for the horse.
Being in this sport I realized the need to give race-horses a second career and hence I took part in the 'Retraining of Racehorses' (ROR) programme by Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) in Dibrugarh, Assam. The program was also awarded the FEI Solidarity Award in 2017. A first for an Asian country.
I currently ride and compete with ex-racehorses which initially was a problem due to lack of proper training of these horses and other constraints associated with ex-racehorses. However, now having been part of the ROR I am able to now care for and train the horses on my own.
I was also chosen to represent my region (North-East) in the National Cadet Corp (NCC) - Republic Day Camp (RDC) 2018. I am also part of the Assam Equestrian Team. The following are the competitions that I will be participating in the forthcoming months:
The challenges we face are the lack of sports horses in the region. We are now able to re-train ex-racehorses with the help of the ROR training. However, the health and other problems faced by ex-racehorses still persist
