Manali trekking is one of the bests in the Himalayas. You can enjoy adventure camps, thrilling mountain biking, etc. Check out this amazing list of treks in and around Manali.
READ MOREManali is widely known as the adventure capital of India, not only for beautiful treks but you'll also get to experience amazing bike rides, paragliding, and Jeep Safaris. Manali trekking places include High altitude treks like Dev Tibba, Hampta pass, and Beas Kund that all start from Manali. I still remember when I first went to trek in Manali, it was crazy out there with all the buses during vacation time. The State was full of people holding their travel bags and seeking a place to spend their holiday.
If you are planning to trek in Manali, here's a list of Manali trekking places from my own experiences that you can choose from. These 'small yet experiences of a lifetime' treks are famous for their narrow trails and spontaneous weather.
Hampta Pass Trek without any doubt is a highlight trek in the Himachal. The trek fills your soul with lush green forests to velvet touch mountains. An extraordinary trek that starts from Manali and takes you to Spiti valley via Kullu valley. It's one of the most spectacular experiences of Kullu Manali trekking
Reaching a very high altitude in a very small amount of time is what makes Beas Kund a very special trek for trekkers. When I went to Beas with my very own set of friends, I found out that this trek requires a winter kit from the base camp itself. There are around 4-5 peaks surrounding the Bakarthatch Campsite in Beas along with the beautiful star gazing nights.
Locals say that Saint Bhirg used to sit by the lake for deep meditation. It is believed that many gods of the valley have dipped in the lake water making it a sacred place to be. Bhirgu lake attracts beginners to advanced trekkers because of its scenic view.
Deo Tibba trek starts from Jagatsukh (Manali) and takes you through several moraines, wild forests, and steep climbs. Deo Tibba Base Camp trek is one of the most picturesque treks in the Himachal region which offers landscapes ranging from alpine forests, meadows and high-altitude lake Chota Chandratal located right in the vicinity of Mt. Deo Tibba.
This six-day trek takes you through campsites like Chikka, Sehri and Taints which offer you the most diverse and beautiful landscape each day. You can also witness snow-capped peaks such as Deo Tibba (6001m) and Indrasan (6220m)
The Sar pass trek starts with beautiful pine trees hovering towards you. Parvati valley is already home to many animals and vegetation, similarly it is an adventure spot for trekkers. The interesting fact about this trek is that you can choose to do it in summer and winter both as it has completed different appeal when the season changes.
Fan of the ridges filled with fog? Then Chandrakhani pass trek is something you'd want to do atleast once in your life. The trek has high altitude steep climbs which are considered moderate but when you are carrying a 50-70L backpack it becomes a difficult one. The trek offers full adventure along with eye-pleasing views.
I went to Chandrakhani Pass Trek with a local guide along with a friend. It was an experience of a lifetime as we went independently leaving no trace behind. We carried our own camping set and packed food. Trust in cooking your own meal at sub-zero is a whole level of another experience.
The new and unexplored lake near Manali has recently been known among explorers, the treks offer beautiful landscapes to the campsite area. If you are a fast walker you can also complete the visit to the lake in a day. Starting from Vashisht you will reach Lamadugh where you will have water, food and shelter. As you climb up from Lama Dugh you will see peaks like Indrasan and deo tibba. Visiting in November makes the trek more scenic from freshly landed snow mixing with grass. After reaching Khanpari Tibba, you can spot Rani sui lake in between mountains which is an easy but long walk from there.
Miyar valley is connected to Zanskar by the ancient trekking route over the Kang La (5,468 m) which is a trek for the more seasoned trekker. But we are going to stick to the Miyar Valley on this trek.
A walk along the winding Miyar Nala is a reward for the seasoned trekker and beginners alike. The walk is slow and the gradient is gentle. The gradual altitude gain makes this trek ideal for everyone – beginners as well as experienced trekkers. The rewards are some of the most pristine campsites, bouldering fields for the more active people and clear emerald lakes to name a few.
If there was an ideal trek away from the crowd and the madness, Miyar Valley is the one!
Here are some of my favourite treks in Manali that completely captures the manali trekking experience or rather Kullu Manali Trekking. I hope this article has inspired you to explore.
